A new article in Mercer Business Magazine written by Scott Cullen (featuring our CEO Lynette Young) talks about creating corporate policies and guidelines help employees engage in social media channels on behalf of their companies. To view the article, download the PDF – Mercer Businss Magazine – Lynette Young. From the article:
Lynette Young, founder of Purple Stripe Productions LLC, recommends a written agreement between the employees and company that outlines roles and responsibilities, including topics and issues that are and are not permitted to be covered in a public forum such as blogging or social networking, as well as a process to get information not covered accepted and approved.
For a different perspective on Social Media and Corporate Policy read the Social Media: Business Benefits and Security, Governance and Assurance Perspectives white paper written by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.
Great article by the way, Lynette. Looking forward to reading more.
As an IT consultant I am fully aware that IT management is struggling with whether social media is productive or obstructive for companies and their employees. Software is being developed and policy and restrictions are being decided everyday by IT managers. The security of company networks are at stake but the potential for innovation using social media is a large enough carrot for the discussion of how to properly utilize the medium continues. Palo Alto networks came up with a whitepaper, http://bit.ly/d2NZRp, which will explore the issues surrounding social media in the workplace. It is important to not only understand the immediate benefits of doing business how one lives, but the threat it presents to a company’s greater ROI and productivity when it comes to the server’s safety and security.
